Fly Agaric Mushroom

I painted this piece in 2022 and held onto the original for years before deciding to let it go. It was inspired by a fly agaric I came across near my home in Northern Germany.
 
The way I work today has little in common with how I worked back then - but this painting still holds a lot of meaning for me. It became one of my most reproduced pieces, and in a way it marked the beginning of my career as a professional artist - my first steps into high quality art prints and building a shop of my own.
 
I am still in awe every time I meet one of these mushrooms in the woods. Like so much I find on my walks, they feel like a small miracle - holding their quiet beauty firmly, and fragile at the same time, protected by mechanisms entirely their own.
